The Mall in the heart of the town of Castlebar was host to the first Inter Hospital Cup Cricket Match on the 20th of October 2012.

A team of Doctors from Sligo travelled to Castlebar on a beautiful Autumns morning.

There was great interest and excitement from the many onlookers and there were representatives from Cricket Ireland to oversee proceedings.

The cricket apparel was sponsored by Sports Clinic West, the wickets, bats balls, and gloves were sponsored by the Consultants of Mayo General Hospital.

The game was very close but Mayo were the proud winners of the Inaugural Perpetual Inter Hospital Cricket Shield.

Players and members of Cricket Ireland retreated to the Travellers Friend for a well deserved lunch sponsored by Sports Clinic West.

Mr O'Grady, Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon, of Sports Clinic West, thanked Castlebar Town Council for the use of the mall, he thanked the Consultants of Mayo General Hospital for their support. Andrew Leonard, PRO of Cricket Ireland congratulated everyone on their enthusiasm and performance. Mr Leonard said that he was impressed at the organisation that had gone into the event and he said that he hoped it was the first of many.
